Do You Have an Anchor?
Published by Tim Kieffer in Faith · Wednesday 02 Nov 2022
If you asked anyone where anchors are found they would tell you on boats and ships. They would know that anchors are used to hold vessels stationary in the water. In another sense, the word anchor is used to describe a person or thing that can be relied on for support, stability, or security.
Is there someone you rely on for support when life’s problems seem to overwhelm you? Maybe it’s your spouse who is always there to listen when things are stressful. They are your anchor to give you a sense of stability even in bad times. Or it might be a lifelong friend who is a great source of support.
How about your home? After a busy time at work or with the kids its nice to have a comfortable living room to relax in at the end of the day. It gives you a secure feeling knowing that you have a place of refuge where you can find peace and forget your troubles.
What about your soul? Are you relying on the person who keeps your soul secure? The most important part of you is your soul. One day your body will grow old and die, but your soul is eternal. You need an anchor for your soul to keep it safe and secure forever and ever. That anchor is Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Hebrews 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
Hebrews 6:19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
Hebrews 6:19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
The hope that every man, woman, and child has is in Jesus Christ! He is the one who paid the penalty we deserve for the sins we have committed before God.
Hebrews 6:20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Jesus took our sins to the cross; he died for us; and he shed his blood that we might be made righteous. He is the hope we have as the eternal anchor for our soul. If you haven’t yet trusted in Jesus Christ, will you do so right now? Believe that he died for your sin, and that he rose from the dead. Believe that he is in heaven right now. Call on him today to save you!
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
