Continue to Worship!

Over 2,400 years ago the prophet Daniel lived in Babylon with all the Jewish people who had been taken captive out of Judah. During the reign of Darius, Daniel enjoyed a position of authority as one of the three princes that ruled over the kingdom of Babylon. Darius preferred Daniel over all the other rulers because he had an excellent spirit in him.

 

Daniel 6:3 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

 

The princes and presidents were jealous of Daniel and plotted to have him done away with. They knew that Daniel worshipped God every day, so they convinced Darius to ban praying to any god for 30 days. If this law was disobeyed, then the offender would be cast into the den of lions to be killed. Daniel knew that the law had been written and signed, and yet he still prayed to God three times a day as he always did.

 

Da 6:10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.

 

Today we are subject to government laws that prohibit worshipping God. Back in 1985 three people in Sudbury were successful in getting the Lord’s prayer banned from all public schools in Ontario. And now the government has banned all worship services with over ten people, and stringent rules are in place. The official line is these laws are designed to keep us safe from the virus.

 

So, what are we Christians to do? We are to do what Daniel did. We know that the laws have been signed into place, but we are to continue to worship as we have always done. Daniel trusted God and obeyed Him even though he was breaking the law of Darius. We are to trust God and obey Him no matter what laws are written in our province or country. No man has authority over our Heavenly Father. When God tells us to worship Him that is what we are to do.

 

Ac 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

 

Daniel obeyed God and was willing to suffer the consequences of his obedience. We are to do the same; be obedient to God even if there are consequences. It might be difficult and nerve wracking but our Heavenly Father will look after us just as He took care of Daniel!

 

Joh 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
Joh 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Joh 10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
